Not only has The Wire magazine made the boldest choice of album of the year amongst the print media with Robert Wyatt's 'Comicopera', it also continues to publish rather neat personal summaries of the closing year from both writers and artists. I rather like this - so here's my subjective take on 2007, in a similar style albeit much less concise! All in no particular order, entirely personal and NOT WRITTEN IN A WORK CAPACITY.

Nominations stage now open: ILX 2007 ALBUMS & TRAX POLL ::::::::::::::::nominations due by 01/01/08:::::::::::::::::
he nominations process for the ILX 2007 ALBUMS & TRAX POLL (which, btw, like all year-end polls needs a decent nickname) is basically the same as last: you can nominate up to 15 albums AND/OR tracks. 15 tracks, 14 albums and 1 track, 3 tracks and 4 albums, 1 track, etc.
Guidelines:
-The noms in question had to have had a fairly significant release (or re-release) in 2007.
-Album tracks on albums released in 2007 qualify
-Tracks on albums released in 2006 that were singles in 2007 qualify
-Tracks on albums released in 2007 that are going to be singles in 2008 do not qualify, save 'em for the next one

You can make your nominations anytime before 2008.

Q magazine:
Find out their mediocre 2007 selections: Acclaimed Music Forum: Q Best of 2007 only one selection Radiohead would come anywhere near my comparative "top tier" 50 criteria.
I am still processing my own top tier / personal 2007 list. A couple others would probably be in the top 200 bracket, PJ Harvey and LCD Soundsystem. Two others would be around B- Soulsavers, The National, a few others would be hard pressed to even be considered just above average C+ / C [the minimum criteria for my long 2007 tracking list], the majority of the albums on the Q list would be in the ignore category of below average.
At least this year Q have sparred us a Top 100 list, as last year I struggled to reach even 10 from their 100 selections. The Q best album list of 2006 was probably the worst End of Year list by the print media I saw last year.
The Observer Music Monthly
Will be publishing their Best 50 Albums of 2007 next Sunday. I am disappointed that they have not gone for a 100 list. As Advertised in The Guardian - Radiohead are featured on the cover as Band of the Year

Something of an international supergroup, the founding of this excellent ensemble is a touch of genius that remains something of a mystery. Hand-picked by writer and film-maker Philip Mullarkey to record and play live as part of the art/film project [box], the four musicians met for the first time in Atlantis Studio in Stockholm for two short days of recording without having planned, scored or prepared any music in advance. It quickly became apparent that this avant-garde juggernaut was heading in the right direction - the musical interplay making it hard to believe that these complex pieces were actually improvised on the spot - again, a testament to instant music making at the highest level.
