23-year-old Elvis Maswanganyi woke up this morning in Attridgeville, a small community in the industrial city of Pretoria, South Africa. His first, regrettable task is to answer a bunch of random questions from a bloke in the UK who keeps going on about LFO and Underground Resistance, two musical influences he currently refuses to accept due to not actually having heard either of them. His response is cordial, if slightly phased, by all the sudden attention: “I feel blessed…it's overwhelming but the feeling is great.

UK music press: Magazine ABCs: Tough times for music and film titles - Press Gazette - NME and Kerrang on the slide !

Kerrang in recent times has been shockingly awful, it's full of mallcore tripe, so no surprise they are performing badly.

More info: ABCs: Sour note for music magazines as circulations plummet | Media | guardian.co.uk

Kerrang! registered the biggest drop in the music magazine sector as its circulation fell 27.9% year on year, recording monthly figures of 60,290 for the first half for 2008, according to latest Audit Bureau of Circulation figures released today.

IPC's weekly music title NME also declined sharply, falling 17.4% year on year to 56,284.

This must be an all-time low figure for the NME, once again NME's narrow demographics have resulted in commercial failure re: circulation sales. However, I would say design wise the magazine has improved in 2008.

Linked by a desire to push heavy metal forward, these varied bands with a couple hundred other black sheep form the hard-to-pin-down category of "progressive metal".
