  Scorch Trio - Brolt

details of the new Scorch Trio album: Rune Grammofon RCD 2074 - Scorch Trio: Brolt

The third album from this free spirited power trio is a masterful example of passionate improvisation and breathtaking interplay. The hand in glove rhythm section of Paal Nilssen-Love (drums) and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (bass) has graced a large number of recordings over the years and Finish guitar maestro Raoul Björkenheim has been around since recording with Edvard Vesala and Krakatau for ECM back in the days. As with their previous albums ”Scorch Trio” and ”Luggumt”, ”Brolt” is an old school analogue recording with the band playing live in one room, drums and amps miked up with vintage microphones recorded to analogue multitrack and mixed down to analogue tape with no overdubs or editing. Mastering by Helge Sten. The double vinyl LP edition comes in 500 copies only and include 4 bonus tracks (33 minutes) not on the CD.

Released 21.04.08

Craig Padilla

new album: Craig Padilla | Below The Mountain - April 8th

Electronic excellence from the shadow of Mt. Shasta
Craig Padilla, the acclaimed electronic music veteran, is back and better than ever with Below The Mountain, a new deep-space analog synth sequencer work. Inspired by the landscape and surroundings of Mt. Shasta near his home in Northern California, Padilla masterfully guides the listener through sweeping sonic vistas of electronic soundscapes, and across a boundless rolling terrain of pulsing sequencer motifs. Below the Mountain is a textural electronic evolutionary sound journey that delivers a contemplative, ambient, deep listening music experience in the tradition of Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach, and early Klaus Schulze.

Beatundercontrol - cosmic repackage - Improvized Dubby Space-Jazz Brilliance from Sweden

Malicious Damage records will release cosmic repackage by Beatundercontrol on April 21st 2008

tracklisting 1: intro 2: all the way [to heaven]
3: cosmic repackage 4: numb 5: interruption
6: neighbourterror blues 7: departure
8: subversion dub 9: finale
running time: 50m 10s

.‘instead of writing banal three-minute songs with mindless expressions and meaning, i rather try to challenge myself through textures, noises and basslines,’ he explains...

this philosophy is explored with often stunning results on ulf’s second beatundercontrol album, cosmic repackage, a colossal aural menagerie of space-jazz brass themes and solo flights, subterranean pulses and dark-hued banks of strings which dart between european avant textures to late 60s hypno-drone alchemists the third ear band... it’s a heady brew, ranging from the nocturnal back alley jazz of neighbourterror blues to the intense freeform scattershots and coruscating atmospherics of "departure... if dub’s shadow looms over the album, notably on tracks like the bottomless fizz-bombs of interruption, it steps out and flashes its glorious sonic stiffie on the alien skank of subversion dub, albeit lashed with dissonance and howling winds...

Listen to tracks on myspace: Beatundercontrol - the music has a powerful dubby trance like psychedelic groove feel. The bass is heavy and booming !

Ulf Ivarsson now presents his own unique mix of dub, freeform, noise and electronica!

Would appeal to Techno Animal / David Torn / Tuxedomoon / Fela Kuti / Miles Davis fans.

Sweden's maverick bass evangelist Ulf "Rockis" Ivarrson delivers a colossal aural menagerie of space-jazz brass themes, solo flights, subterranean pulses and powerful dark-hued strings.
Malicious Damage - CD
Cargo Records

This music fits nicely under the ethos of Kozmigroov

Kozmigroov* is a transgressive improvisational music which combines elements of psychedelia, spirituality, jazz, rock, soul, funk, and African, Latin, Brazillian, Indian and Asian influences culminating into an all encompassing cosmic groove. At its most accomplished, Kozmigroov is both expansive and highly rhythmic, and simultaneously finds connections with the mind, soul and body.

No-Man

details of the new album: Kscope - Blog Archive: No-Man - Schoolyard Ghosts

New No-Man album Schoolyard Ghosts coming May 12th

Tim Bowness & Steven Wilson return with No-Man’s eagerly awaited sixth official album, and the band’s first since 2003’s atmospheric Together We’re Stranger.

Featuring the hypnotic Wherever There Is Light, the warped dynamism of Pigeon Drummer, the outsider lament of All Sweet Things and the subtly evolving explorations of the uplifting semi-orchestral 13 minute epic Truenorth, Schoolyard Ghosts is a distinctive combination of beautifully detailed songwriting and inventively cinematic production.

Representing the band’s most consistent and mature work to date, the album looks set to build and improve upon the success of predecessors Returning Jesus and Together We’re Stranger.

Guest musicians include Porcupine Tree’s Colin Edwin and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree/King Crimson), Bruce Kaphan (ex-American Music Club/Red House Painters), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Dave Stewart (arranging The London Session Orchestra) & Theo Travis (David Sylvian/Nine Horses)

Autumn's Grey Solace

new album: Projekt: Autumn's Grey Solace - Ablaze due May 6th

The flame of inspiration continues to burn brightly on Ablaze, the fifth album (in six years) from ethereal shoegaze artists Autumn's Grey Solace. Ablaze contains eleven tracks of passionately created dreampop gems. Erin Welton's crystal clear vocal melodies soar into the heavens while Scott Ferrell's lush backdrop of guitars and other stringed instruments are richly orchestrated, with great attention paid to clarity and detail. The music is alive with blazing, echoing guitar chords, sun-kissed vocal harmonies, and a blistering rhythm section. Ablaze is a warm, glowing version of shoegaze, and celebrates the beauty and romanticism of the genre.

  Three Trapped Tigers

Interesting new band alert...Three Trapped Tigers

Self described as.. Beautiful, mathematical, avant-jazz-rock. This four-piece, instrumental act sound like Battles nailed to Radiohead then thrown down a flight of stairs. [via: QUART FESTIVAL RELEASED 15 BANDS TODAY]

Unsigned British band get booked for the upcoming Quart festival in Norway.. quart: Three Trapped Tigers

Three Trapped Tigers (UK)

Three Trapped Tigers are not a buzz–band. No–one is writing about them. No–one is trying to sign them and just a handful of people have ever seen them live. They've only written six songs. This four–piece, instrumental act sound like Battles nailed to Radiohead then thrown down a flight of stairs. Click on the Myspace link below, choose track '2', and if you can tap your foot in time for the whole five minutes and seventeen seconds, you're probably a machine. But if you're a machine, you will fail to appreciate the mathematical, yet very human beauty they possess.

Listen...MySpace.com - Three Trapped Tigers - - Other - www.myspace.com/threetrappedtigers

Tom Rogerson
- piano, keyboards, voice
Adam Betts
- drums, electronics
Adam Beach
- bass
Matt Calvert
- guitar, synths, electronics

However one blogger is already on the case ! In League With Paton: The Last Words on 2007

Three Trapped Tigers - The most adventurous new band in London (Supersilent meeting Battles with a twist of Keith Jarrett) and my big tip for 2008.

I hear some Max Tundra influences as well.

Definitely a band to keep tabs on.
