More information on Nought I need to get this soon!

"Nought", then, is an album that deserves to be heard - loudly or
quietly: its power is not diminshed - not just by a select group of
experimental music snobs. It's extreme but also incredibly
accessible. Just as "OK Computer" took difficult music to the masses,
so Nought could enlighten a myriad audience of jazz buffs, modern
classical music fans and the sort of rock fans who realise there is a
world beyond Oasis. That "Nought" is released in the same month as Radiohead's new opus, and has been as long in the making, is no
coincidence. The two albums stand together as monuments to the powerof imagination in the face of comfortable conservatism.

Nought released their album recently, on Shifty disco

"Formed in March 1996 out of a common desire for improvisation, originality and a love for the classic music of the 20th Century - Miles Davis, Steve Reich, Sonic Youth, Philip Glass, Stravinsky, Glenn Branca, Nation of Ulysses, John Coltrane & The Fall - Nught have warped the conceived boundaries between rock, jazz and the avant garde and welded a jet engine to Oxford's already musical rollercoaster ride."

One of the leading contemporary artists in techno music Surgeon releases new album - called Body Request.

Force & form - Surgeon's last album was a sublime techno album, that was deep and lush.

I need a record player again, first Ed Rush & Optical release LP first release, now Surgeon releases LP only.

Life is unfair!

Forced Exposure: state
"Surgeon describes his extraordinary new album Body Request as 'dense, physical body music. Stylish and brutal.' Music designed to provoke a cerebral, emotional response, but more importantly a physical response. His most uncompromising LP to date is a collection of dark, brooding, rhythmically dense tracks with the dancefloor never far from its sights. The tonal experiments and mood pieces that have characterised his previous albums are noticeably absent, their place taken by material that, while harking back to his earlier club orientated work, displays just how much he has grown as a producer in terms of depth and texture. From the Latino tinged techno of 'Instinct' through to the sinister dreamlike/nightmarish atmospherics of 'Sleep (Ultra Violet)', it's easy to see why Surgeon is considered one of the guiding lights in techno today." LP-only release

A new epic sound project to check out Species Being "is an improvisational avant-rock quartet whose music travels through passages of high intensity rhythm, sonic layers of experimental sound scaping, and poignant pieces of down tempo ambiance. Performing a unique blend of experimental, prog, and drone within an improvisational format, Species Being's sound is often captivating and beautiful at times and at other moments down right evil and sinister "

sounds interesting.

Look what is finally out today - 2 months late! The Faust - wumme years

if you want your copy grap it quick this a limited edition!, at the link above

"The ultimate collection from the legendary inventors of Kraut Rock, Julian Copes favourite band. The 5 CD set contains unreleased early material, a Peel session, and all Faust's early LPs. 48 page booklet stuffed with unpublished photos and revealing interviews.>>>>The presentation box & booklet contain, amongst other things never published contemporary pictures, interviews with the legendary Kurt Graupner, the engineer responsible for Faust's extraordinary early recordings - whose innovations and experiments are finally given the exposure they deserve (he has never been interviewed before and took some tracking down). Uwe Nettlebeck and members of the original group. This is the story of an extraordinarily creative period and of a remarkable situation - the group had their own studio, almost unheard of at the time, and a lot of people came and went and a lot of extraordinary things happened there, here documented for the first time). There is also a memoire by Peter Blegvad (who stayed and worked at Wumme in those years (the first Slapphappy LPs were made there) and much more. Then there is the film connection - and a lot of other documentary material. The CDs in the box are the first 2 historic records: Faust and Faust So Far (So Far with its artwork restored), The Faust Tapes (completely re-mastered and repackaged), 7I minutes, re-mastered & repackaged, and finally the legendary 1973 BBC sessions plus 5 unreleased tracks from the period and two others never released on CD."

I say if this album is as interesting as Scorn's evanscene then count me in.

Why can't so called alternative radio stations play interesting music like Scorn?

Instead in London we have a radio station Xfm that has a current playlist that includes showbiz dull duffers such as Green Day, Offspring, the twat in the cap - Limp Bizkit - making music for morons, Blink 182. And that new Foo Fighters single is pile of aural AOR drivel.

Yume Bitsu are featured on Epitonic.

"Yume Bitsu's spacious, airy epics fall around you in sheets, almost like a heavy rain of musical colors: cool, damp, haunting synth curtains fold around eerie, reverb-drenched guitar lines while dense, psychedelic percussive hailstones fall all about. The sound suggests the ambient psychedelia of '70s Ash Ra Tempel or Tangerine Dream as well as the synth-happy drone of My Bloody Valentine"

Echoboy have made some very interesting music this year. In particular I enjoyed the sonic diversity of Volume one, ranging from dreamy psychedelia to distorted industrial techno.

Richard Warren is interviewed by Icrunch "I want to excite people; I want to blow people's minds and I aim to push boundaries."

"Richard Warren aka Echoboy, is a multi-talented task-master. Not only is he content writing all of the songs on 'Echoboy Volume One & Volume Two' (Mute), he also takes it upon himself to play most of the instruments. From firey fuzz boxes to beaten up Moogs, Echoboy's style is a bizarre blend of psychadelic, krautrock electronica, which is influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Kraftwerk and The Chemical Brothers"

I have heard over 80 albums released in 2000 this year, and I am fed up with some people who say there is not much interesting music in 2000.

Here are a further 115 albums that I would like to check out. I believe that the year 2000 is one of the most diverse and interesting years for music in the past 20 years.

Although because this music is scattered over many genres and different hybrids - it can be difficult in keeping pace with interesting creative music in 2000. Especially when most music magazines, radio stations and TV chanels are so lame and narrow and restrictive in choice.

Some Highlights

The Young Gods - second nature - will be out in the UK tomorrow. But guess who the lucky sod who saw a copy in Borders in Charing cross, London today. Me. and its sublime - DJ Martian first to buy The Young Gods - Second Nature - in the UK. Smug bastard! yes guilty

yet again DJ Martian strikes lucky with getting to buy albums before release date - thats The Damage Manual, Regular Fries, Larmousse and now The Young Gods. The lesson keep your eyes open in record stores - you may strike lucky!

NOVEMBER 20th is a mega release day for new albums - the last big week of the year., November 27th has a fair number - but no way the volume.

Then in December it tails off completely. With virtually fuck all released. Instead its time to look back on the past year releases.

Velvet Acid Christ - will finally release their album, twisted thought generator - tomorrow Monday 20th November. One of the most anticipated albums in electro industrial this year.

Also Albums Due out tomorrow in the UK are:

Benge - Silicon Valleys - experimental electronics

Bucolic - Dyzan Blood - apparently sound like Cabaret Volatire and dub

Cex - Role Model - warped electronics

Delerium - poem - crossover ethereal electronics

Ed Rush & Optical - creeps (LP only) - techstep jungle

Electric Company - Exitos - treated guitars mixed with electronica

Fireside - Elite - swedish post hardcore emo types

Grade - The Embarrasing Beginning - hardcore metalandemocore types

Microstoria -Model3 Step2 -Microstoria is a collaboration between Jan St. Werner from Mouse On Mars and Markus Popp from fellow German electronic theorists Oval

Oneida - Come on everybody lets rock - hard psychedelic stoner rock

Ribbon Effect - Slip (Roomtone via Southern) - experimental electronics with chiming acoustic bass ala a slowed down New Order

Salvatore - Clingfilm -apparently sound like Kraftwerk and Motorhead!

Savath & Savalas - lush electronica on Warp - apparently simliar to Tortoise

Scorn - Greetings from Birmingham - possibly out tomorrow?

Andy Votel releases his an album on Twisted Nerve.

Yume Bitsu - Auspicious Winds - space rock orchestral post rock - possibly out 20th or 27th - think Mogwai / Sonic Youth/ MBV/ Roy Montgomery. This band could do very well in the UK only if they could get airplay!

Penny Black profiles a stack of new and forthcoming albums that you can purchase from their site.

IMHO On this form Penny Black demonstrate that they are the leading independent music website on the internet in the UK.

Here are 15 choices that I highlight for your knowledge

Aluminium Group - Pelo
Bucolic - Dzyan Blood
CEX - Role Model
Calla Scavengers
Cody - Stillpoint Primer
Dukes of Hand Gliding - My Cinema
Electric Company Exitos
Fire Show - Fire Show
Fireside Elite
Kilowatthours - Strain Of Possitive Thinking
MDK - A Friend Is A Stranger You Haven't Met Yet
Microstoria -Model3 Step2
Sings:Ohio Ghost Tropic
Velvet Acid Christ - Twisted Mind Generator

Aluminium Group

Aluminium Group - Pelo
Hefty HEFTY025
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

'Pelo' is the 4th CD from the Aluminium Group and their first for Hefty Records. Pelo took 2 months to compose and construct in collaboration with JOHN HERNDON of TORTOISE and Isotope 217. Further examination of song, melody, rhythm, structure, expansion, lyrical & instrumental combinations, these are the things that interest Frank/John Navin and John Ridenour. 'Pelo' was mixed with this in mind by John McENTIRE (Tortoise, Stereolab) and John Herndon. Musicians appearing on this record include Jeff PARKER, Sally TIMMS, Doug McCOMBS, Rob Mazurek ..."top-drawer American art-pop...the Aluminium Group wins its point: Pretty pictures will never look the same again" Rolling Stone.

Bucolic

Bucolic - Dzyan Blood
Bsi BSI0092
Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

The long anticiapted CD release by San Francisco's most underground crew, BUCOLIC. Compared to ' a clash between King Tubby & Cabaret Voltaire on the abandoned Space Station Mir' this unique document is a live and spectral megamix of unreleased Bucolic jams.....The original tracks were hardcore ramshackle sounsystem constructs, all live and largely improvised affairs of beat, buzz and noise. This CD is the sound of Bucolic remixing itself, the sound of cassette decks, reel, effects machines and room mikes all deployed to create this haunting , skanking and utterly mesmerising work.

CEX

CEX - Role Model
Tigerbeat MEOW004.
Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Influenced by everything from aphex twin and autechre to universal order of armageddon and ween, this record defies current electronic music trappings in the sheer force of its direct musical impact and the sheer honesty and emotion from which the tracks were inspired.

Calla

Calla - Scavengers
Quatermass QS106CD
Released On: 27 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Second album from up-and-coming band to watch, Calla. Get ready for a hallucinogenic trip to the dark side of the galaxy of pop; the moody atmospherics of their debut merged with the unconventional mixture of guitars & drums and unpredictable electronic touches. Includes a stunning cover of Steve Miller's Dear Mary. SPECIAL GUEST: MICHAEL GIRA (Swans), as co-producer and backing vocalist. One for fans of Kranky, Constellation etc.

Cody

Cody - Stillpoint Primer
Shinkansen SHINK29CD.
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Highly recommended debut album from Oxford-based 4 piece, CODY. A massive progression from the bands previous releases on Shifty Disco & Shinkansen, Stillpoint Primer has a fondness for both the motorised dynamics of post-rock and the exhilarating effects of pop music, rejecting pointless experimental widdling in favour of attention-grabbing, genre-trashing, silver-plated pulse-pop. The CD also contains a multimedia CD-ROM section. For fans of Cocteau Twins, Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine, Air, Kraftwerk

Dukes of Hand Gliding

Dukes of Hand Gliding - My Cinema
Snowstorm STORM007CD.
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Follow-up to the two limited singles is this stunning debut album. Features a number of guests including trumpet supremo terry edwards. The most obvious musical comparison is the doves and pre-prog radiohead, but this exciting new band have a unique sound of their own, and have already tickled the fancy of a number of writers and programmers.

Electric Company

Electric Company - Exitos
Tigerbeat MEOW005
Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Latest and greatest full length from brad laner, best known for fronting medicine, whose many releases on def american and creation labels left many shoe gazers chin stroking and ear tingling at just how much you can subvert the standard four piece indie pop group formula. Created with treated guitar and all the cracked software he can fit into his poerbook, exitos is filled with a new sense of rhythmic and melodic structure similar to artists like kit clayton, chain reaction, farben or monolake but with the cut and paste hard diskcomposition aesthetic of mouse on mars, pluramon & kid 606.

Fire Show

Fire Show - Fire Show
Perishable PER013.
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Guitar puzzles and bloody romantic epics from Seth and Michael (ex NUMBER ONE CUP). Dub mixes and pop reconstructions unfold with surgical ease. Cure - like vocals and Gang Of Four/Wire guitars wrestle with 21st Century medicine. Worlds away from their work with Number 1 Cup, Seth & Michael find their own voice on THE FIRE SHOW and shamelessly never look back. Recorded by Brian Deck, on a hot streak after producing Modest Mouse's 'Moon and Antartica' and ORSO' s 'Long Time By'. Brian gives the Fire Show the treatment; orchestral strings, radio static, tape loops and other odd bits of sound dodge around the skeleton & through the bloodstream of a rock band willingly going under the knife...THE FIRE SHOW feature on the next Fierce Panda sampler

Fireside

Fireside - Elite
Star Tracks STAR8050-2. Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Long awaited new full length for swedens fireside. They started as an "emo" style band with their debut "fantastic four", furthuring this style on their grammy winning "do not tailgate" album. They then signed to american and toured the states as part of lollapalooza tour. Having returned to the star tracks label, they then released their singles / covers compilation "hello kids" (4/5 in kerrang, 10/10 metal hammer) and then their next studio album "uomini donore" which got them more outstanding reviews. Now it is time for the new studio album, "elite", combining heartfelt melodies / vocals with some epic instrumentation and some amazing guitar playing. More in a modern singer songwriter vein, like recent motorpsycho meets sebadoh. The title track itself is an 11 minute instrumental, and with songs like "thin g on a spring", it seems that firesdie are ready for their next step towards world recognition, a clutch of uk shows is promised in the new year.

Kilowatthours

Kilowatthours - Strain Of Possitive Thinking
Temporary Residence TRR28.
Released On: 27 November 2000

Penny Black state:

On the heels of their acclaimed "lessons in time management" single, kilowatthours return with their debut full length. Opening with thhe dark, orchestral "that you all played", featuring moody synths and pianos that build t oa dirgy climax with intereweaving guitar lines and loops, this drifts into effortless pop, and then intrumentals which make way for a cryptic piano / organ based chamber piece (less neo-classical than the rachels, more morose than the blackheart procession), it is a debut album of some stature, there are other moments that shine like sunny day real estate, some like my bloody valentine, and their dark version of the velvet undergrounds "candy says" shows a dark, more depserate side of the band. For fans of radiohead, sunny day real estate, my bloody valentine, and motorpsycho.

MDK

MDK - A Friend Is A Stranger You Haven't Met Yet
Spymania SPY015.
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Spymania's finest album to date, follow up to the NME Top 50 album of the year "Open Transport". The album consists of 23 tracks, taking in a variety of styles including jazzy hip hop, multilayered ambience, live flute, horizontal breaks, melancholy guitars and of course distortion glitches, hisses and clicks apenty.

Microstoria

Microstoria -Model3 Step2
Sonig 19537302.
Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

Microstoria is a collaboration between Jan St. Werner from Mouse On Mars and Markus Popp from fellow German electronic theorists Oval. In the latter band, songform has been completely atomised and deconstructed into it's component form which is then reconstructed into random yet remarkably musical swathes of sound. Sounds are lifted from CDs which have been abused and manipulated into issuing forth digital clicks and buzzes which form offbeat, irregular rhythms, random skips, and queasy, unsteady sequences of transformed program material. These ideas are then amalgamated with those of the more ambient side of fellow mercurial technologists Mouse On Mars which bring estranged, organic melodies which collide to form a fascinating and complex mix of sound.

Songs:Ohio

Songs:Ohio Ghost Tropic
Secretly Canadian SC40
Released On: 13 November 2000

Penny Black state:

On their fifth full length, songs:ohia have recorded their most subtler record to date. This is the most "album-like" the band has been, the albums 8 songs sprawl out into one another, telling one long sonic tale. Blending the electro-acoustic minimalism of the david bowie and brian eno trilogy, with the percussive worldliness of tom waits "swordfishtrombones" and melding an ennio morricone-like spaghetti western feel to faint echoes of chinese classical ringing. "ghost tropic" is the first album which reveals songs:ohias own tropicalia blues in full bloom. Guests on the recordings include ali roberts (appendix out), and members of lullaby for the working class and bright eyes.

Velvet Acid Christ

Velvet Acid Christ - Twisted Mind Generator
Metropolis EFA173212.
Released On: 20 November 2000

Penny Black state:

'Twisted Mind Generator' is VELEVET ACID CHRISTS 4th full length release and follow up to 1999's 'Fun With Knives'. This album is densely sequenced with multiple layers, pounding beats and fantastic samples . VAC's inflences range from the hard driving industrial sound of Skinny Puppy right thru to Napalm Death and GodFlesh...an excellent new album from this American electro industrial act.

Talking of emo post hardcore rock The White Octave are from North Carolina and to me they sound across between Bob Mould (think the texture of guitars on workbook) and (the driving emotional style of ) At the Drive in. They are worth checking out if you like epic guitar rock music. The bass work also reminds me a bit of Red House Painters.

This sums up The White Octave's sound brilliantly

"The dynamics of power and emotion that were evident in Cursive's music can be heard. But this does not really sound like Cursive. Rather, Stephen Pedersen and his new bandmates have crafted a very unique and powerful debut. It's powerful and complex rock with stellar rhythm, emotional and powerful vocals, and, above all, a thick and brilliant texture. That's what makes this album so unique and so good. The White Octave seem to be all about complexity and power, and each song differs from the last while building on the brilliance of this album. And while this can best be called a post-hardcore band, I guarantee the energy and talent of their style of rock is something very different, and something you're going to love." - Delusions of Adequacy

Swedish post hardcore legends Fireside return with a new album called Elite, on Startracks.

Fireside's 1996 Do Not Tailgate was a creative opus highpoint for the band, the band had a guitar sound that was exciting, sublime and loaded with stop start dynamics. This was inspired by Quicksand, Fugazi, Husker Du etc Fireside added an additional twist to develop their own brand of post hardcore emo rock.

With emo or emotional based rock firmly back on the agenda in 2000 from bands as diverse as Glassjaw to And you will know us to the trial of dead to The Movielife to Wilt to The Lapse to Cave in - maybe Fireside deserve greater exposure and respect?

Mixing It is a weekly contemporary music discussion programme on BBC Radio 3 covering similiar music covered in The Wire magazine.

Mixing it has been going for over 10 years now, and is one of the few radio programmes alongside John Peel (Radio 1) and John Kennedy (Xfm) that plays the more challenging, radical and leftfield music.

Mixing it previously was on Monday nights, but they have switched to Saturday nights over the past year or so. I say switch back to a week day and have a 2 hour instead. Then they could cover more music.

I have enjoyed Mixing it since the early 90s as it is one of the few shows on radio that actually discusses and debates the sound context.

In London tonight the weather is miserable so I am staying in and will be listening to Mixing It November 11th playlists includes Scanner, Godspeed You Black Emperor and Ear Drum.

Ear Drum: Roach
Album: Last Light Leaf Label: BAY7CD
Last Light is the long-awaited debut album by Eardrum, the group put together by percussionists Lou Ciccotelli and Richard Olatunde Baker. The album is comprised of ten percussion-dominated rhythmic leviathans - the missing link between 23 Skidoo,
Afrobeat and Jon Hassells Fouth World project. Recorded live, the album applies the pioneering attitudes of Lee Perr, King Tubby and Teo Macero as the studio becomes and instrument of manipulation warping the contributions and electrifying the groove, fusing
African concepts of rhythm with dub and electronics. (Leaf Promo)

Cerberus Shoal are a band that been receiving good press this year for their new album, Crash My Moon Yacht including Delusions of Adequacy who have this to say

"Have you ever heard a band that just completely blows you away with their originality and talent? Cerberus Shoal was that band for me. Their albums mix in rock with folk, ambient, tribal, and various other styles. Mostly instrumental, their songs seem to be capable of conveying more feeling that just about any music I've ever heard."

Cerberus Shoal released the album "Crash My Moon Yacht" this year on the Pandemonium label

"Possibly categorized as a cross between a post-rock and tribal band, Cerberus Shoal play primarily instrumentals "

Shellshock distribution in the UK state
"wielding the usual drums/guitars/bass assortment of instruments plus piano, brass, voilin, didjeridoo, thermin, flute, congas, & some harder to identigy... Cerberus Shoal take you on a relaxing trip. Go for a delightful journey into the world of orginal music"

Fockewolf
are a darkwave band from Seattle.

"From the remains of And Christ Wept comes a new band. Started by R Wilhelm as a side project from ACW to explore the more electronic side of the industrial genre, Fockewolf soon took on a life of it's own. Adding Severina on vocals, with her dark sultry lyrics, brought in a new diversity to the band. Incorporating gothic melodies and borrowing techno rythms, Fockewolf stands to be one of the more unique bands to come out of Seattle in the last few years."

The vocalists at times reminds of Curve, the music is similiar to other darkwave acts The Razor Skyline, Trance to the Sun, Switchblade Symphony. Fockewolf though make more use of analog synths ala Suicide that that add a distorted layer to their sound.

Swiss Avant Garde sonic pioneers The Young Gods will now release their much anticipated album, "Second nature" in the UK on November 20th according to 2 sources on the internet that I have found so far!.

The Young Gods have a new website to celebrate the new album, that is just as innovative as their sublime music.

They have a new track to download, astronomic - that demonstrates that The Young Gods are on fine form, mixing electro industrial, deep ambient synth swirls, shards of experimental techno - that reminds one of Aphex Twin, pulsating techno drum sounds that remind me of a trance act Capricorn - on 20Hz, distorted guitars, deep riffing bass, and snarling goth vocals that sound from another planet.

This is extraordinary music. Music that is intoxicating and refreshing, music that pushes sound further into experimentation.. The Young Gods are at the cutting edge of sound of 2000.

In 2000 The Young Gods join Red Harvest as sonic rock futurists par excellence.

Invincible, supreme, sublime - twisting and distorting music into new sonic shapes. This is absolutely compulsory music for 2000.

The Young Gods are Sonic Rock Futurists - are you ready to join them in embracing the future now?

"Randall has also completed a new fuxa album, simply titled fuxa 2000. Randall has finally completed the latest fuxa album. He bravely arrived in london last year with a burning desire to meet with some of his favourite bands, particularly bands hed grown up listening to back home in detroit. He did just that and many guest on this excellent new album, which certainly is a leap forwards from the previous instrumental albums. Each guest adding his/her own feel to the songs.track one features stephen lawrie (vocals and ebowed guitar ) and jo doran also on vocals who were core members of the telescopes. Dreamy vocals and harmonies entwined with randalls gentle wash of guitars and percussion. Techno light was previously a single on rocket girl, receiving rave reviews in indie and dance magazines alike. Randall hung out at rocket girl hq where he recorded with label mates, glen johnson and gabe mcdonough, of piano magic, the result amber gambler randall became best buddies with sonic boom and during one of their recording sessions they covered suicides track girl. Sonic and willie b carruthers (spacemen 3) both contribute to this album."

London's most talented young artist Zan Lyons is 21 this week. I have raved about Zan Lyons music many times this year. Once again "Desolate" is one of the finest albums of the year.

"Released to much acclaim in May of this year, 'Desolate' is a dynamic collection of tracks, quietly considered strings orchestrate his self-penned arrangements, periodically punctuated with dramatically placed beats and loops, a suitable antidote to the noise for noise sake of his contempories. "

If you have never heard the sonic genius of Zan's music, there is an MP3 track to download. Do it today. Then get the album ASAP.

Others that agree with me

'Joy Division for the digital age' Sleaze Nation

'...some of the most chilling, powerful and downright unnerving music ever committed to disc' Kerrang! Single Of The Week

Zan Lyons along with Faultine are pioneers in Digital Psychedelics - combing complex organic instrumentation with dark twisted electronic music.

Faultline "Terrorising and seducing by turn, David Kosten aka Faultline's combination of orchestration and distortion heads for the extremes of emotional states: bursting hope, pressurised tension, swelling beauty, impending danger. Electric storm music.
"

Faultline's debut album, Colder Closer has finally been released in America, over twelve months after the UK release.

In 2001 both Zan Lyons and Faultline will be releasing new material. They are part of Britain's sonic future.Make them part of your future.

Have you heard an interesting track off the new album by SCHNEIDER TM/KPT.MICHI.GAN: Binokular yet? i.e a slow ambient electro version of The Smiths classic track "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"

I enjoyed it, Morrisey's voice is slowed down and distorted like a robot over a downtempo backdrop.

You must hear it.

I wonder what Mozzer makes of it all?

Anjali has a new album out this week on the Wiiija label.

Anjali music is very special and what I have heard so far is very arty and atmospheric.

Music wise it would appeal to Portishead, Leila, Goldfrapp, Insides, Laika, Dot Allison and Andrea Parker fans.

"Anjalis album is released towards the end of the year, and advance listens suggest a masterwork which is as organic as it is experimental. The new material gives a nod and a wink to the classic song arrangements of Gilberto Gil and Astrud Gilberto crossbred with the filmic-funk of library music composers Alan Teew, Jack Arel and Piero Piccioni, anchored by the head-nod beats of Premier, Beatnuts and The Alchemist. Tracks such as Dusk and Haunted talk of a desperate plea of escapism. It is hard to dissect words with words. I believe in ambiguity and listening to what is presented is the best description"

"With all of these influences echoing throughout the final product, what we are presented with is the next step in Anjalis journey through laid-back beats, chilled out arrangements, and seductive sounds"

"cool and fresh...a clearly emerging talent" dj magazine

Anjali is making creative interesting music that deserves your attention

PS Anjali is also a very attractive and stylish women !

The Organ also alerted me to a band for Norway called Sonic Debris

Who state "Some of our influences are : King Crimson, Rush, King's X, Faith No More, U2, Simple Minds, Mahavishnu Orchestra and so on. "

Listening to the band it is remarkable has Bono been kidnapped and forced to play with Rush clones for an afternoon? Sonic Debris it is certainly more interesting than U2 in 2000, and how long can the U2log.com
stretch out a mediocore and rather lame new album, from a band that has run out of ideas from what I have heard so far.

I believe Simon Reynolds review of the new U2 album in the December edition of Uncut magazine was a very accurate account of U2 current sound, unlike Adam Sweeeting's review in The Guardian which was OTT - what was he on when he wrote this? U2 -All That You Can't Leave Behind

The best 5 albums by U2 IMHO

The Unforgetable Fire
War
The Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby
Boy

Here are 10 albums that are in an epic rock terrain that U2 and the rabid fans should listen to for some creative inspiration in 2000

A Perfect Circle Mer De Noms
AC Acoustics Understanding Music
Cave In - Jupiter
The Damage Manual The Damage Manual
The Deftones White Pony
Doves Lost Souls
earthtone 9 arctangent
The The Naked Self

Pitchfork review an album that I would like to check out The Eternals -The Eternals

Shellshock records who are distributing this album in the UK also state this:

"Chicago trio The Eternals take the city's trademark post- rock sounds in a wholly new & unexpected directions. With a backbone of roots culture, post rock group improvisation, heady post punk, forward thinking Dub & the sly, scatting of Gil Scott Heron - The Eternals name is truly apt one, implying a grounding in musics past & the wide open possibilities of progression"

Their music has a lot of substance, electro beats that have deep dark atmospheric sound textures with a experimental twist. The influences that I detect in their sound include Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy and Einsturzende Neubaten circa Halber Mensch.

Their website includes two tracks that can be listened to via Real Audio.

One of the first bands that I enjoyed as 10/11 year old way back in 1981 were The Teardrop Explodes with their pop rock sounds of Reward and Treason - passionate and dynamic top 20 tracks that impressed me greatly as a young whippersnapper. The emotional vocals and catchy hooks, and the driving energy of the songs and sounds were winners for me.

Mercury Records are reissuing the 2 albums Kilimanjaro and Wilder with additional tracks.

The December issue of Uncut magazine, has a version of Treason sung in French called Traison - and wonderful it sounds 19 and half years later ! ( It is official I feel old, this would be like someone in 1981 going on about the music that they listened to in 1962! )

Traison was released for the French market in May 1981 but unavailable in the UK.The reissue of Kilimanjaro will include this.

I must listen to my copy of Kilimanjaro album soon, as it is a fine album full of dreamy psychedelic rock gems.

One of the finest tracks I have heard this year "The All, The All" is the lead track of the new EP by Lo Fidelity Allstars who are interviewed here by the NME, a real audio track is also available for you to listen to as well.

Lo Fidelity Allstars like Primal Scream have taken a post modernist approach to music, fusing and plundering ideas to create an exciting sound hybrid.

taking the riffs from Stooges, the hypnotic krautrock from Can, one of the finest synth hypnotic riffs since Cars by Gary Numan, the innovative spirit of 1979 is also at work here with basslines ala Joy Division, PIL and also the brilliant dirty funk of Cabaret Voltaire, This Heat, there are also similiarities with early Simple Minds leap forward ten years and take the free spirited electro-rock approach of Happy Mondays in 1989, while their also 90s breakbeats influences at the forefront mixed in with guitars remind me of the sublime work of Accelera Deck on their Narcotic Beats album.

One this outstanding form the second proper album by Lo Fidelity Allstars due next year looks like an essential purchase for any discerning post modernist.

In the meantime The 'Ghostmutt EP' by Lo Fidelity Allstars is out November 20.

A Perfect Circle are featured by Instant magazine.

A Perfect Circle have released one of the finest rock albums this year in Mer De Noms. The outstanding track on the album is Magdalena, that matches the intensity of the finest work by other epic rock acts such as Killing Joke and Jane's Addiction.

The whole album is arty, atmospheric, innovative, dynamic, psychedelic, powerful and passionate rock music.

A new single is released in the UK on November 6th, The Hollow.
