Githead are - Malka Spigel, Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) & Colin Newman.
Githead are very new, yet in their short existence have managed to craft a style which is both original yet accessible. Combining rhythmic toughness with interweaving guitars, insistently funky basslines with deadpan vocals.
HeadGit is their debut, self titling, release 6 tracks which can serve as both an introduction to the band and a taster for their first album planned for early 2005.
Swim is also making a special gift offer available only with this release, and only through PostEverything. Each order will be shipped with a copy of Malka’s 1998 classic album My Pet Fish (we charge postage only for these). Amongst other things this album features a collaborative track with Robin which may very well be viewed as Githead mk I in hindsight…

Ai Records are building up an international reputation for their esteemed electronic music, in particular Claro Intelecto and this will continue when the Yellotone album is dropped.

Artrocker launches weekly rock mag
Playlouder have news of a new weekly music magazine from Artrocker
The magazine, to be called 'Artrocker', funnily enough, will have an initial launch next Monday, October 4th. It will be available through Vital in independent record shops, some fashion emporia, and additionally will be sold on the streets - with sellers getting to keep all proceeds. Make dollar and learn! After an initial four-week period, Artrocker will go weekly from November 1st.

Well virtually anything will be better than the clueless and useless NME, however Artrocker is very much of the old skool local fanzine approach. This means their music coverage concentrates on rock bands on independent labels/ or upcoming unsigned bands. The Artrocker approach is high on local enthusiasm but lacks quality control and music diversity is an alien concept to these indie rock rodents. Artrocker is most likely appeal to scruffy gig going 17 - 25 year old types in large cities in the UK.
If Careless Talk Costs Lives/ Plan B are accused of being too rockist, the artrocker types wear it as a badge of pride.

TrusttheDJ album of the week is Kiki - Run With Me
With his influences ranging from Kiss and David Bowie to the Sisters Of Mercy and hip hop, Kiki’s clearly been listening to the right mentors, and has absorbed their influences then regurgitated them in his own distinctive way.
Run With Me is out now on Ellen Alien’s Bpitch Control Records and is a definite contender for Album of the Year. Highly recommended.

Junkmedia interview Tim Hecker
preamble:
Montreal resident Tim Hecker attracted initial attention with his releases under the alias Jetone, Autumnmonia (Pitchcadet, 2000) and Ultramarin (Force Inc., 2001). But Hecker eventually stripped himself of the Jetone moniker and its associated "organic techno" style in order to concentrate on a more abstract and fluid form of dramatic soundscaping under his own name. While Fennesz and Oval are oft-cited reference points, Hecker's ecstatic slabs of textured noise carve out unique stylistic territory. Following Haunt Me Haunt Me Do It Again (Alien8, 2001) and the EP My Love Is Rotten To The Core (Alien8, 2002), Hecker released Radio Amor (Mille Plateaux), one of 2003's most memorable and conceptually satisfying releases.
Fall 2004 now brings the release of Mirages, a thoroughly credible if less overtly referential follow-up issued on Alien8's sub-label Substractif. Hecker, an M.A. graduate in Political Theory from Concordia University and a key figure within a burgeoning Montreal music community that includes MUTEK, Constellation, and Alien8, spoke with Junkmedia on the eve of the new album's release.

Brooks - Red Tape
Brooks has taken some minimal detroity techfunk music, shaken it hard, added some Lord Byron, a dash of herbert-esque glitchtronics, a soupcon of Berlin gay club culture and a pinch of industrial machinery, then squeezed some sex juice over the whole lot and come up with a fat album full of dirty dancefloor jams. it's also an exotic english electronic pop album that roxy music or soft cell would have made had they heard outkast, and one of the best electronic albums of 2004. on soundslike.

FRIEZE MUSIC - a 3 day music event in London
News of a 3 day event in London, Frieze Music 2004
Frieze Music 2004 is a three-day event in October which aims to bring together an eclectic range of musicians and artists at the edges of pop music culture. Organised by Eat Your Own Ears, musician Steve Mackey and Dan Fox, associate editor of frieze magazine, the music programme runs in conjunction with the Frieze Art Fair, an event featuring 150 of the most dynamic contemporary art galleries in the world showing over 1000 of the most exciting artists working today. The music event, which will be hosted in three venues across London on consecutive nights between 16th – 18th October, culminates with a Franz Ferdinand present The Chateau evening at the Scala where the Scottish 4 piece will curate an evening of music of their choice.

Our third release with American singer-songwriter Jesse Poe's project
Tanakh strays from structured songs and resides much more in the
regions of the avant-garde. This double CD features more drone-oriented
elements comparable to the debut Tanakh release, "Villa Claustrophobia," and the
collective ensembles of the Mile End music scene of Montreal. It is
based around a unique hand-made instrument constructed from the
salvaged ruble of a destroyed piano. This instrument resonates with a deep

Les Georges Leningrad's sophomore album is without a doubt catchier

Logreybeam - It's All Just Another Aspect Of Mannerism
Type
"It's All Just Another Aspect Of Mannerism" is the first solo full length release from Los Angeles based Logreybeam, aka Gabriel Morley. Gabriel has previously released material for Team Shadetek's scarce Shadetek label and, together with longtime collaborator John Xela, has released music under the name Yasume for the City Centre Offices imprint. Having spent many years studying music at the prestigious Cal Arts Academy, Morley has taken his training in modern classical composition and turned it on its head. Instead of merely sampling the instruments he has so painstakingly learned, he resynthesizes, filters and destroys them until scant traces remain on the resulting sound recordings. Every track starts with a sound base, whether it be piano, strings or percussion, only a hint of the original source is left. All we hear are tones, trapped reverberations, the sounds that we are taught to ignore. For this release Morley dispenses with percussion almost entirely to make a record of drifting, crystalline beauty. It opens in typically classical style, with the sounds of a laptop orchestra tuning their samples on 'Premonition'. This sets the tone of the record perfectly as it drifts seamlessly from Xenakis-influenced electrical drones into the cold, precise digital manipulations explored previously by artists such as Carsten Nicolai. It stops for breath mid-way with 'Beetelguise', a wonderful reinterpretation of Danny Elfman's influential theme, proving that there is room for a wry smile in the po-faced world of the avante garde. As the album draws to a satisfying close with the mysterious 'Untitled' we are treated to a piece of field recording, delicately manipulated to brush the senses rather than barrage them with information. This kind of subtlety is rarely achieved, yet Gabriel Morley manages effortlessly. Such simple yet involving beauty comes around far too infrequently, which is what makes 'It's All Just Another Aspect Of Mannerism' such an essential work.

The Boats - Songs By The Sea

The music on the debut album by The Boats was written by The Sea, hence the title "Songs by The Sea". Clever huh? The faces behind the project have a history of performing in many bands, Hood and The Remote Viewer being but two fine examples. There's Craig and Andrew delicately weaving together these exceptionally moving pieces, while elaine sings along in a fluttering, beautifully broken manner. Their music takes in numerous instruments, from dusty sweeping drums to ageing accordions, from sterling vintage piano to warm padding bass, from tapped windblown bells to unconsciously puffed melodica. Pan over to the other side of the studio and you discover old bits of malfunctioning electronic machinery, drum-machines that don't quite work as they should, banks of amnesiac samplers trying to regain their memories, mixers that have started to confuse left with right. Songs by The Sea captures that ageless essence of atmosphere and heartbreak, nostalgia and inspiration, the sound of slowly fading memory seeping into and confusing itself with a multicoloured subconscious. This is music in the finest, unspoken tradition of lonely seafaring, written from the furthest depths of the ocean, with whatever instruments just happen to lie around on deck. A huge recommendation.

Vybz Kartel has just appeared on one of our fave albums of recent times Diplo's 'Florida', ripping it on the 'Diplo Rhythm'. For a multiple dosage - you're in the right place - this is the 'More up 2 di time edition' with 5 additional tracks from original issue, including big recent hits like 'Breast Specialist' with Beenie Man and 'Tekk'. Vybz was already sheer hotness before his run in with Ninja Man at Sting, a swarm of pres last year announcing his annunciation to near Godfather status in Ja. With guest appearances from Wayne Marshall, Kardinal Offishal & Beenie man, this is The Man Most Likely To -Vybz appeal is all about sex, charisma and pop - productions are shared bya healthy blend of Don Corleon with extras from Lenky, Baby G, Blaxxx, Burro and more. What's going on...
Alexandroid - False Starts

Although the fad for Russian electronica didn't last very long (Fizzarum? Eu? anyone?) I recently revisited the second volume of Lo Recordings "R U Electronic" and found myself surprised at just how good some of the tracks on there still sound. Alexandroid delivered a couple of the standout tracks on the compilation and here return for a beautifully packaged 17-track album, curiously stretching from spacious electroid jackers to more orchestral pieces drawing on their love of classical music and piano-based composition. It's not a record that works in its entirety, in places sounding a tad dated, but edited down to 10 or so tracks what you have here is a beautifully serene scape through luscious textures and typically astute soviet soundscaping. Lovely stuff.
Lateduster - Easy Pieces

More diversification from Miami's excellent Merck imprint - this time delivering a fantastic album from the highly regarded Minneapolis quartet Lateduster. The band have been recording together for over 5 years and have been involved in numerous projects - including Fog (Ninja Tune), Dosh (Anticon), Hymies Basement (Lex) and Neotropic (Mush), although "Easy Pieces" is their first widely available release. Lateduster span across countless acoustic and electronic disciplines, making for an absorbing multi-instrumentalist arrangement of tracks that span from refined post-rock to humming ambience, glitched-up hip hop styles and beyond. Nice to see the label spread its wings once again, really good stuff. Recommended.
Mark One - One Way

And so Planet Mu step into the Grime arena with the debut full-length from scene veteran Mark One. With a spate of releases for all the right labels : Soulja, Tempa, Texture, Southside, Immunity, his own Contagious imprint and, most recently, the notorious Grime compilation on Rephlex - Mark fuses a dirty low-end scrape and tumble with a ghetto mentality - shards of Hip Hop, R & B, Garage, 2-step and even electro stainin his template in fine gangsta style. It's all about the basslines kids, and "One Way" is a veritable cesspit of f*cked up low end wobbles and knuckle cracking stabs - complete with the Virus Syndicate tagging along for the ride. "One Way" is a more extreme, mutant, darkcore version of the recent Skinnymann album, a devastating take on the street beats of Dizzee Rascal without all the plastic concessions. This is the real deal and fans of bumpin' bass everywhere need to take heed immediately. Killah!
Milanese - 1 Up

Really good dancefloor mess-making from Arcola graduate Milanese, bringing a devastating digital grime-core sound to the Warp massive. "1 Up" veers from decimated cut-up 2-step variations to teeth-grinding clean and uncompromising junglist juggling, just the way we like it. Some electroid spasm-shaking and low-end hugging sublow tweaking also throw themselves into the mix for one of the best Warp releases for the floor in a very very long time indeed. On cd and beautifully cut double-loud double-vinyl for your limb-flailing pleasure. Ayyyye!
Moodymann - Black Mahogani II

Finally given a full release! Majestic jazz cuts from Kenny Dixon Jr's jazz sessions - at long last given over to an adoring fanbase to drool over. The centrepiece of this incredible album is the eighteen minute 'When She Follows', spiritual modal deep deep jazz that harks back to the seventies, material like that championed by Black Jazz, so lovingly recently reissued by Soul Jazz. Chopped live drum rolls, looping acoustic bass, electric piano stabs and distant saxophone all wrapped up in the soulful vocal that drifts ever onwards like some epic detroit techno cut replayed by Gil Scott Heron's band in 1970. Incredible music. 'Rectify' follows in a similar method, pure jazz in a detroit techno framework, even managing to top Carl Craig's work on the massive Innerzone Orchestra album, a record that comes to mind listening to these amazing pieces. The final two tracks 'Dirty Little Bonus Beats' and 'When She (Reprise)' are revisions of the main cuts, the former alters the bassline, adds female vocal sighs and more rhythmic drum grooves, while the latter shifts up the tempo and develops a wigged out techno synth element. These are all-exclusive tracks - a stone cold classic and an absolutely essential purchase, straight from the heart. Awesome.

Glad to see this Italian label finally hitting UK shores. Only two releases strong so far, this trio extension of Retina (Hefty) start's things off in a fine style. Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono alongside Marco Messina are all members of the Avatar 41 community of artists and collective owners of this label. `Opinioomnium' is an eight track foray into subtle but quietly rocking glitch dancefloor maneuvers with a blue tinge. Inhabiting a similar space to which Japan's Progressive Form and Plop label have cornered just recently with artists such as Nao Tokui and Fonica. Recommended.
Signer - The New Face of Smiling

Signer's incredible "Low Light Dreams" album from a couple of years back is unquestionably one of the most slept-on albums of recent times. Bevan Smith's evolution from electronic practitioner to a master of minimalism and organic scene-setting culminated in an album so spacious and warm it was almost impossible to contain, at one and the same time giving a knowing nod of respect to the minimal machinations of Berlin's Basic Channel and the stretched acoustic tapestries of Windy and Carl, Low, and the magnificent Stars of the Lid. Since then Bevan has re-arranged his instruments and has embarked on a new direction for this new album "The New Face Of Smiling", a largely acoustic affair that at times ventures into more traditional structures and at others hangs loose with a much more freestyle agenda. The album opens with a kind of farewell to its predecessor, "Low Light Sleeep" seeming to suggest that the artist has left this particular chapter of his life behind him, about to wake up from his slumber to a whole new set of tricks. From here on the album takes a frazzled trajectory through fragmented pop, re-arranged balladeering and a lucky dip attitude that charms with its lack of pretension. Recommended.

Blumm, Lullatone, Greg Davis, Nudge, Flim, Nice Nice, Guido Mobius, Honey & Colleen, Kazumasa Hashimoto, E*rock, Baikonour, Lineland, Frz, Un caddie renversé dans l'herbe, Strategy, E*vax & Supersprite. Audio Dregs seems to have had a bit of a hiatus of late, so its nice to see them back with another collection of home listening experiments, bucolic melodicism, and acustic-electric instrumental pop songs with that dedlicious home-made flavour. F.S. Blumm delivers another gorgeously strummed soundtrack to the more approachable end of experimentalism, Greg Davis sinks into a gorgeosuly bittersweet lullaby, Baikonour allow minimalism and fuzz to warm the coccles while the ever-excellent Nudge steal the show once again with a sharp descent into glowing audio twilight. Lovely and incredibly good value.

The debut album from Martin Wheeler drops on Soma with the same Manga-obsessed stylings that have accompanied his every release thus far, from the animé artwork to the screaming plastic sounds within. "Vector Lovers" once again spans from one end of the spectrum to the other, reaching from drum-machine jackin electropop to subtle, emotive soundscaping in tribute to the same documentaries and wildlife programmes that have inspired the likes of Boards of Canada and Isan in the not-so-distant past. Good stuff - check!

Much hype and fanfare, but this really is rather excellent indeed and a bit of a bargain to boot. It's been a long time coming but at long last Warp have compiled the definitive anthology of their video output since 1989 - with the exception of 4 videos, none of them have ever been available on DVD before. The DVD includes two stunning, never seen before videos for Aphex Twin and Jamie Lidell, plus classic videos for LFO, Sweet Exorcist, Seefeel, Autechre, Broadcast, Chris Clark, Plaid, Luke Vibert, Mira Calix, Prefuse 73, Beans, Antipop Consortium, Sabres of Paradise, Squarepusher, Jimi Tenor, John Callaghan, and Nightmares on Wax. Follow up to the superb Cool As Ice compilation, this time focussing on the production work of Be-Music [aka New Order], the excellent Donald Johnson, sticksman for A Certain Ratio, and assistance from stateside sympathisers Mark Kamins, Jellybean Benitez and Arthur Baker. This is the story of how many of these tunes fell flat in the european countries of origin but were adopted and cherished by deep, black and gay clubs in north america. Perhaps the standouts here are 52nd Street, always one of the most underrated bands out of Manchester, and at the production helm was DoJo, with able sequencing assistance from Bernard Sumner. Some nice rarities here in the shape of psyche-acid house pioneers Section 25's 'Sakura' and the edit of New Order's 'video 5-8-6', originally a cassette only item. A proper piece of Manc history.
Kazi & Oh No - The Plague

Oh No seems to be trying to out-do his big brother Madlib as one of the most prolific producers of 2004. With his large Stones Throw debut album `The Disrupt' just round the corner the time's right to release this dope hook up with west coast emcee Kazi who's been relativeively quiet since dropping the almost classic `Down For The Kaz' 12" back in 2000. Kazi's vocals are rugged, but mature - kinda 50% detroit thugged and 50% knowledge and wisdom. Fifteen tracks deep with no fillers. Guest emcees include Medaphoar, Declaime (new album soon), Aloe Blacc (Emanon), Infamous MC, Wildchild and Spontaneous. Funnily enough the only guest production track is `Sick With The Art' by Kankick, a killer cut and best place to sample this albums quality. Plus the scratching is pure old school style, just how I like it. I know the hip hop arena especially in the Stones Throw section is getting a bit crammed but you need to make room for `The Plague'. Wicked hip hop.
Acid Mothers Temple - Does the Cosmic Shepherd Dream of Electric Tapirs?

As a japanese soul collective, acid mothers temple and the melting paraiso ufo are something of an enigma to the western world, and most likely to eastern ears too. their music can be described as acid-rock, experimental, psychedelic or a whole host of genres dependent on the listeners mood. This is their first release for the Spacemen-3 affiliated Space Age label, and they mark the occasion by producing their most daringly accessable and, dare I say it, almost sweet-soaked collection of blissed out psychedelic songs. Fans of the Animal Collective will find much to enjoy here.
Devendra Banhart - Nino Rojo

Recorded during the same sessions as the excellent `Rejoicing In The Hands....', Nino Rojo drops amid much media fanfare and interest in one of the most remarkable singer-songwriters of recent years. "Nino Rojo" is a beautiful, if familiar affair - delicately stripped down strums and songs about all manner of farmyard animals and the wonders of nature, sung in that obtuse Marc-Bolanesque twang that seems to either completely rile or endear anyone who bears witness to it. "Nino Rojo" makes for a beautifully life-affirming listen, just what you need to warm the cockles as the nights draw in ever closer. Recommended.
Interpol - Antics

Recorded with longtime associate Peter Katis, `Antics' is an optimistic exploration of the dark landscapes visited on Interpol's hugely successful debut `Turn On The Bright Lights'. Interpol's time must surely have arrived, the half a million or so albums they have already sold and the legion of high-profile fans of the band will no doubt ensure that their darkcore indiepop will crossover with even more gusto this time round. Destined to be absolutely massive.
Kama Aina - Music Activist

The Geographic label has carved itself a cosy little niche for twee, organic, cross-cultural home listening music of the most endearing kind. Kama Aina Is the project of Tokyo's Takuji Aoyagi and falls into this category perfectly with a selection of glowing instrumental pieces that take in a myriad instruments, styles and campfire strums full of memorable melodies and splashes of Haiwaian guitar. As reference points try labelmates Maher Shalal Hash Baz or maybe even Tommy Guerrero, a lovely little album. Recommended.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus

It's almost without exception that one can say that double albums of this nature very rarely work. What we have here, however, features some of Nick Cave's most ambitious and astute _expression of vitriol for the best part of a decade. While the "Lyre of Orpheus" concentrates on his oozing lovesongs for all manner of strange and unidentified beauties, "Abattoir Blues" unleashes Cave's wit and tobacco-stained violence at it's most devastating. It's an often fabulous work from one of the most disturbingly charismatic songwriters of a generation, uncomfortably itching away at middle age with all the nastiness and bile we'd expect. Excellent stuff.
Sigur Ros - Von

Originally issued back in 1997, "Von" was the first full album release from Icelandic drifters Sigur Ros and is now available once again in all its 72 minue glory. The sound across these 12 tracks is reassuringly primitive, though often daring (as in the completely flawed, though forward-thinking turntable-style rewinds at the end of "Hun Juro"), drifting from 4AD-inspired quasi-shoegazing atmospherics at one moment, and John-Cage inspired silence the next. The band was quite obviously at this stage not only looking at the reverberating echoes of the British Indie scene of the late 80's, but also in its more ambitious forefather sometimes referred to as Prog rock. A good album and a fascinating document, well worth checking out.
Benny Blanko - 8 Ft In The Air

Ace album, now available on cd! Benny Blanko from the Bronx, as he was referred to on his smashin debut twelve for Playhouse - 'All The Way Down' - comes with an album collecting some of his earlier, hard to find productions for Homestyle 1995-1999, interspersed with some new bespoke productions and this proves to be a good move, adding diversity and a sense of longevity. Opening with 'We Can Fly' is perfect for an album like this, big fat synth-bass and a genuine feelin that you're warming up for something good. 'Beautiful' feat Danio touches down with a warm soulful flavour, smoochin it inna smooth style - 'Put Yr Hands' adds heartrending keys, a sizeable bass dimension, and a stirring soulful sista snippet - mighty deep fonk!! '12 bits of funk' has to be one of the highlights here, revealing some deep wah-wahed, conga'd vibes from the big apple. Blanko's facility with moving between more house and then hip-hop influenced material makes this one useful, consistently listenable album - the title track would be a decent beats weapon in any self-respecting box. 'Beatdown on electric ave.' picks up where we left off on the first disc, a genuine love of bass, vocal hiccups and party all night drums. 'Khamelion' keeps on doin it like you oughta - ten minutes sprawling over the last side, delicious reduced moodymann vibes. Good stuff.

Digitally mixed by Michael Mayer and digitally edited by Olaf Dettinger, seems like the Kompakt speicher extra series are getting all digital on us - after the heady heights reached by the last three twelves in the series. The whole of the excellent Speicher 19, Magnet and Wighnomy Brothers treading through Basic channel's footprints are present and correct here - as is what has rapidly become our personal favourite Cologne jacker of all, DJ Koze's all-conquering 'Brutalga square'. Even Giles Peterson is playing this one, which should give you an idea of the resounding appeal on offer here - we're talking straight ahead, club friendly techno. Elsewhere Koze, the Voigts and Joachim Speith offer merciless dancefloor domination - Blitz and Jens Harke represent for the Auftreib crew and the mix is bracketed by two beauties from Wolfgang Voigt and a coda from the Optimo massive in Glasgow - Wilkes and Savage aka Naum. Killer mix.

Mats Gustafsson / Sonic Youth - Hidros 3 (To Patti Smith)

Together with Gustafsson Sonic Youth teamed up with American guitar legend Loren Connors (aka Loren Mazzacane Connors), Lotta Melin, David Stackenäs and Lindha Kallerdahl. Armed with five guitars, electronics, voices, audiobox and contrabass saxophone, the group created a massive and monumental sound. "Hidros 3" is in many ways related to Sonic Youth's releases on their own SYR label (Sonic Youth Records) and their soundtrack to French movie "Demonlover". But what differs this albums from their past SYR albums is the vocal by Kim Gordon! The characteristic 'spoken' vocals from Kim Gordon and the moody, atmospheric and dissonant sound makes you think of the NYC in the early 80's and the first albums by Sonic Youth. "Hidros 3" is in many ways NYC no wave colliding with European free / avant jazz.

As well as 11 original songs, this CD includes bonus remixes by Playgroup, DFA and Whitey, plus a video for "Needy Girl".

Update, in their five dancing men review, say: 'The whole thrust of the LP is steamy work with ramped up R'n'B touches, stompy indie beats, plump synth lines, glam rock riffs and backing vocals culled from the background of a porno movie'.

On Sunday 26th September Annie returns to her old time slot and will broadcast live from the top of the BT Tower and we're going to webcast it too!

.....Now that wish has become a reality. My other greatest wish was that BT, Brian Transeau would be among the guest djs to play at the top of the Tower. BT is flying in from Los Angeles, by special invitation, for this event. His music has the kind of elements of technology and space that I thought would be ideal and appropriate to play from the top of one of the world's most famous buildings, the radio waves emanating from right there all over the world... and who knows, maybe beyond.
As you can maybe tell, this project has become something of an obsession for me! Its also going to be a big breaks celebration party, with Meat Katie, whom I have so long admired as a breakbeat innovator playing live, and from Australia, Andrew Friendly, winner of this year's Breakspoll Best New DJ Award, and also the passionate supporter of breaks, who has done so much to create the extraordinary scene that is now going on world wide with this music, DJ Hyper.

Norwegian Metal Inferno London Invasion !
Inferno announce a London Inferno Event 2005 featuring some of the finest dark metal bands on the planet: Arcturus [experimental epic dark metal], Red Harvest [industrial black metal], Enslaved [progressive black metal] and Madder Mortem [atmospheric dark metal]!
Why?
The festival realizes that the international interest has increased with staggering speed and as a result of this we have decided to do an Inferno Event in London.
When?
The date will be thursday 27th of January, and the venue is The Underworld located in Camden.
What?
Since this is an Inferno event, we'll announce the full festival line-up for 2005 exclusively to the UK audience. In Norway this will happen two days later. During the day we will in cooperation with By:Larm (Norway's equivalent to In the City), have a press/partner gathering with press conference, get-together, lots of freebies and more. And of course an eventful musical evening
The plan is to make this an annual event, and maybe expand to 2-3 consecutive days, or even different cities.

THE LEAF LABEL
Copenhagen ten-piece Efterklang reach far beyond the expectations of a debut with this, their ambitious first album for The Leaf Label. Tripper whispers like thunder, combining transcendent melodies with glacial strings and piano, febrile electronics, hushed male-female vocals and a Greenlandic choir. A year in the making, the album is intense and dramatic; intimate yet coolly detached.
Efterklang means ‘reverberation’ (literally, ‘after noise’), but is loosely translated as ‘remembrance’, evoking the sense of yearning at the heart of their work. Tripper breathes with sensations and subtleties and emotional depth, bringing to mind the music of Múm, Rachel’s and My Bloody Valentine.
Formed in early 2001 by Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg, the core members soon augmented their line-up with Rune Mølgaard Fonseca’s piano and Thomas Kirirath Husmer’s percussion work. This line-up recorded their debut EP (and sole release to date), Springer, on their own Rumraket label. To accompany the music, Efterklang recruited Karim Ghahwagi, an accomplished film-maker whose video collages are integral to the band’s breathtaking live show (Ghahwagi’s visual accompaniment for ‘Prey And Predator’ can be viewed at www.efterklang.net). The current membership is completed by Kristina Schjelde (trumpet), together with Hildur Ársælsdóttir and Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir from Iceland’s Amina string quartet, known for their extraordinary work with Sigur Rós.

Today it has been announced that e.s.t. are the winners of the 2004 EUROPEAN JAZZ AWARD, which gets voted by 21 industry professionals from 21 different countries in Europe. The price will be given on December 3, 2004 in Vienna by representatives of the Federal Chancellor for Culture of Austria and the City of Vienna´s Cultural Office and is to celebrate an "outstanding musical achievement in the field of jazz in the past year".

Dusted review Kyle Bruckmann - Gasps and Fissures
Kyle Bruckmann's goal in the creation of Gasps and Fissures was (in part), in his words, "...an attempt to inhabit gray areas and straddle dichotomies," and the album does this in an engaging fashion. Bruckmann's classical and jazz influences are stripped down and dissected, resulting in music that's as much electronic as it is either of the aforementioned styles. Gasps and Fissures inhabits the areas in between these territories, not straddling them so much as existing deep in the cracks, where many wouldn't even think to look. Like a slide of single-celled organisms bursting to life under a microscope, this album finds flourishing life in the most unexpected of places.
